Berniece May Thomas Musgrave, passed away on May 18, 2018, just a few hours short of her 98th birthday, at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan, WY. Berniece was born May 19, 1920, in Sheridan, the eighth child of Sam and Nellie Mumma Thomas. She attended Sheridan schools and lived all of her life in or near Sheridan. She married Deva Musgrave in February of 1936, and the couple ranched for a time near Decker, MT. Her hobbies were cooking and sewing, especially western shirts. Two sons were born to this union: Ted in 1938 and Bill in 1944. In 1952, Berniece went to work as head cook at the Taylor School lunchroom all the while taking evening business classes at Sheridan College. In 1962, she became the secretary at Sheridan Junior High School. In 1969, she transferred to Sheridan High School and was secretary to the principal until her retirement in 1982. After retirement, she and her husband bought a mobile home in Yuma, AZ, where they spent the winter months. Deva passed away in February of 1987. Berniece continued spending winters in Yuma until 2014. Berniece was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years; sons Ted and Bill, infant grandson David, sister Dorothy Brug, and six Thomas brothers: Lloyd, Jess, Roy, Ralph (Ike), Bob, and Bernard. She is survived by daughters-in-law Judy Musgrave of Decker, MT, and Cathy Storm of Sheridan, WY; grandchildren Tom (Sally) Musgrave of Gig Harbor, WA; Dr. Marianne (A.J.) Regnier of Ventura, CA; Charlie (Michella) Compton of Sheridan; and Kyle Ann (Zane) Hopkins of Gering, NE, as well as one great-granddaughter, Tiffany Hopkins of Gering, NE. Berniece is also survived by her younger sister Ruth (Charley) Peterson of Newtown, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Among them, Dollie Iberlin and Sheryl Barker were especially close during her final years. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held in the Oblong Square Masonic Section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery at a later time with Pastor Catherine Storm officiating. A reception will follow at the Brookdale/Sugarland dining room.
