SHERIDAN — During the Wyoming Nurses Association 2018 annual Nursing Summit and Conference, held in Sheridan last week, Sheridan Memorial Hospital received an award and one of its nurse managers received special recognition.
Sheridan Memorial Hospital received the 2018 WNA Innovation Award. The award acknowledges a health system or individual hospital for an innovative practice that improves nursing and patient outcomes. Sheridan Memorial Hospital secured the award for its Integrated Infusion Management System utilizing infusion pumps, patient-controlled analgesia pumps and alarm forwarding.
An infusion pump is an external medical device that delivers fluids into a patient’s body in a controlled manner. A PCA pump gives patients the ability to self-administer pain medication through an intravenous line. The Infusion Management System operates through wireless connectivity to integrate smart pumps with other systems and devices. This capability dramatically improves infusion safety, nursing and pharmacy productivity, clinical decision-making, patient monitoring, alarm notification and reduction in variation.
Tommi Ritterbusch, RN, manager of the Welch Cancer Center at Sheridan Memorial Hospital was one of three recipients to receive WNA’s New Nurses for the Future Award. The award recognizes a relatively new nurse’s significant or unique contributions to leadership in community affairs, nursing professional organizations and growth and development of others, as well as promoting and advancing the nursing profession in the community. The nominator commended Ritterbusch for her leadership and effectiveness as a department manager and praised her critical thinking skills, collaborative vision, community engagement and patient-centered care advocating.
Sheridan native and WNA President Dee Gilson completes the two-year term she served as WNA president. Gilson has been active with WNA for over 22 years, previously serving as vice president and holding various district positions. She is the director of surgical services and cardiac catheterization lab at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Lacey Johnson, director of nursing at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, is WNA’s newly elected vice president of the northeast region.
