Sheridan records a pair of top-three finishes
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School golf team competed in the Worland Invite Friday and Saturday. The Broncs took runner-up as a team with a score of 671, while the Lady Broncs placed third with a tally of 559.
Brayden James led the charge for Sheridan, firing a 153 to take third individually. Sean Sanders snuck inside in the top 10, carding a 163 to finish eighth, while Alex Sanders and Sam Lecholat rounded out the Broncs’ scoring with a 183 and a 189, respectively.
Abby James paced the Lady Broncs with her third top-five finish in as many starts. She placed third, recording a 169. Hannah Detmer and Libby Gardner tied for 10th with a pair of 195s.
Worland won the boys side, carding a 613 team score, and Thunder Basin won the girls portion, firing a 529.
Sheridan hosts a two-day tournament beginning Thursday at Kendrick Municipal Golf Course.
Sheridan tennis eases past Riverton
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School tennis team logged its first victory of the season. Both the Broncs and Lady Broncs won their respective duals over Riverton 5-0.
The Lady Broncs won four matches in straight sets while their other victory came via forfeit.
Julia Kutz defeated Kiersten McDonald 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Ella Laird and Hannah Jost downed Grace Rohn and Summeri Bass 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. The teams of Tori Pearce and Steph Gonpa and Megan Hoffman and Dam Dillon won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, respectively, while Aspen Malkuch took her No. 2 singles match in a forfeit decision.
The Broncs claimed a pair of matches by forfeit and won the other three in straight sets.
Ethan Kutz won his No. 1 singles match over Devon Harper 6-4, 6-3. Reed Rabon and Kevin Woodrow beat Anthony Potsche and Kaen Kellner 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles match, and Trenton Lewallen took the No. 2 singles match.
Sheridan travels to Casper to battle Natrona and Kelly Walsh Thursday before hosting the first home dual of the season against Torrington Saturday.
TR girls, BH boys golf finish runner-up in Sundance
DAYTON — The Tongue River girls and Big Horn boys golf teams each took second Friday at the Sundance Invitational. The Tongue River boys tied for third.
The Lady Eagles finished with a team score of 377 and were led by Sadie Koltiska, who placed fifth overall with a round of 118. The Rams scored 396 as a team, and the Eagles finished with 420. Big Horn’s Hayden Tellez placed fourth overall and shot an 87, while Tongue River’s Nick Summers was one spot behind with a round of 88.
Both teams compete Sept. 7-8 at the Lusk Invitational.
