SHERIDAN — The 3-1 opening weekend took a bit of a turn in week two for the Sheridan College basketball teams. The Generals and Lady Generals combined for just one win and three losses against some stronger competition over the weekend.
The SC men opened the year with a third-straight win against Otero Junior College Friday. Sheridan beat Otero 86-79 behind 20 points and eight assists from sophomore Channel Banks. Keenan Dowell chipped in 14 points, and AJ Bramah had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Generals went on to face another one of Region IX South’s top teams, Trinidad State, Saturday but suffered their first loss of the season in a tight 87-85 battle.
They’ll close out a road trip against Eastern Wyoming College Monday at 6 p.m.
The SC women struggled to get any offense going in two losses in Gillette over the weekend.
The Lady Generals lost 87-43 to No. 5-ranked Salt Lake Community College Friday. Raelynn Keefer led the team with 16 points, and Ashleigh Frampton added 10, but Sheridan got just 6 points off the bench in the loss.
Saturday, Keefer and Lily Jex scored 10 apiece, but the Lady Generals couldn’t keep up with Snow College in a 69-43 loss. They shot just 12 of 53 (23 percent) from the field.
Both Sheridan College basketball teams will play their home openers Friday as part of the Sheridan Tournament. The SC women play Bismarck State College at 5 p.m., and the men host Northeastern Junior College at 7 p.m.
