SHERIDAN — Sheridan Police Department officials said the man who barricaded himself in a recreational vehicle on South Main Street on Saturday evening died by suicide at around 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Sheridan County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Gregory Coleman, 46, of Sheridan.
SPD said Coleman did not respond to any attempts law enforcement made to contact him. Alcohol was reported to be a catalyst for the incident.
At around 9 a.m. Sunday, law enforcement eliminated the perimeter around the vehicle to encourage Coleman to come out and speak with officers.
Officers maintained observation of the vehicle throughout the day.
At 3:55 p.m. Sunday, officers determined that all alcohol should have been metabolized by Coleman and conducted a welfare check on him. Officers gained a vantage point and saw the man lying on the ground in the vehicle.
Officers entered the vehicle and observed that Coleman had shot himself. SPD officials said the man had taken measures to mitigate the noise and light produced by the gunshot.
