CROW AGENCY, Mont. — Located over the border in Montana, the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument and battle site is a good daytrip to take from Sheridan.

On June 25, 1876, without authorization from his superior officer, Col. George Armstrong Custer led his men into an ambush that killed more than 250 men, including Custer himself.

The battle was a crucial engagement because it was the last major Indian victory in North America.

The site includes a museum and historic interpretation of the battle.
