Romero’s career night propels SC women to 87-73 win over Western Wyoming
SHERIDAN — It was a career night for Sheridan College’s Quriss Romero as her 28 points led the Lady Generals to an 87-73 win over Western Wyoming Community College Wednesday.
The SC freshman shot 11 of 17 from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers in the win while dishing out eight assists and committing zero turnovers. She also grabbed six steals.
Zuzana Talackova added 22 points — including four 3s of her own — and 11 rebounds, and Tamara Brine chipped in 20 to backup Romero in the Lady Generals’ fifth-straight win.
The hot shooting — SC finished the game 46 percent from the field — was needed as the Lady Generals held just a 66-61 advantage after three quarters. The team utilized a 21-12 fourth quarter to run away with the game for good.
Sheridan (19-9, 9-4 in Region IX North) has locked up the 3-seed in the conference tournament. They will travel to Powell Saturday to take on Northwest College (11-18, 4-9).
Late jumper downs Sheridan College 86-84 in overtime
SHERIDAN — There were 10 ties and 16 lead changes in Wednesday night’s basketball game between Sheridan College and Western Wyoming Community College, but Western Wyoming took the lead when it mattered most. A midrange jump shot with two seconds left earned the Mustangs an 86-84 overtime win.
With nine seconds left and SC trailing 84-82, an inbounds play set up Pablo Rivas for an easy basket inside the paint to tie the game. But there was too much time left for the Mustangs. Western got down to the other end of the floor in a hurry, and a pull-up jumper at the elbow regained the lead and the eventual win for the Mustangs.
Rivas led the Generals in scoring with 24 points to go with eight rebounds. Austin Sherrell scored 17 and Celio Araujo added a career-high 16. Western Wyoming’s Tyler Isaacs led all scorers with 26.
The Sheridan College men (9-20, 6-7 in Region IX North) will finish out the season Saturday at Northwest College (15-12, 6-7).
