SHERIDAN — The Bighorn Audubon Society recently announced two Christmas Bird Count events. This year will mark the National Audubon Society’s 116th year of Christmas Bird Counts.

Volunteers across the nation count as many birds as they can in a single, 8-hour day.

Each year, the group asks volunteers to drive vehicles, record data and identify birds on specified routes. In addition, volunteers help keep track of the birds that come to their feeders on count day. Everyone is welcome from beginning birders to experts.

The upcoming Sheridan Christmas Bird Count will take place Saturday. Those planning to participate should please contact Julie Rieder at 702-468-0029 or julie.rieder@gmail.com.

The Story-Big Horn Christmas Bird Count will be held Dec. 29. Those planning to participate should contact Ariel Downing at 751-2303 or bandgeek832@gmail.com.
