SHERIDAN — Fire crews responded to a structure fire at 505 N. Sheridan Ave. on Monday at approximately 6:30 p.m.

According to Sheridan Fire-Rescue officials, the fire appeared to start in the basement, though the official cause is still under investigation.

The home was vacant, but a dog that was in the backyard was taken into custody for protection.

Crews from SFR, the Goose Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Rocky Mountain Ambulance and Sheridan Police Department all responded to the call. Approximately 25 firefighters were on scene.

When fire crews arrived, flames were showing from the peak of the roof.

Crews remained on scene for approximately three hours.

No injuries were reported.
