SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College rodeo team didn’t get the weekend they were hoping for to open the 2015-16 college rodeo season.
The Generals traveled to Riverton for the first rodeo of the school year at Central Wyoming, but only five athletes made it to the short round on Sunday.
Tioni Erickson was the bright spot for the SC women, earning 65 points for her weekend in goat tying. Her time of 8.0 seconds earned her a trip to the short round where she tied her goat in 7.9 seconds. The rest of the women’s team had a solid weekend of roping but broke the barrier in the process.
Four Sheridan men made it to the short go but couldn’t get anything from it.
Brett and Kadon Knapp roped their steer in 8.4 seconds in team roping but couldn’t catch it in the short round. Sam Thurston split the long round win in saddle bronc riding but was bucked off in the short round. Kash Deal also made the short round in bronc riding, but he failed to mark his horse out in the short go.
“No one is happy with the outcome from this past weekend,” SC head coach Marc Gilkerson said. “But we are not focusing on the past but looking to the future.”
The Generals head to Chadron, Nebraska, this weekend and Gilkerson said that everyone is “ready to go.”
