SHERIDAN — The annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk will be held Sept. 12 at Whitney Commons Park.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m., an opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. and the walk will commence at 10:30 a.m. Music and food vendors will be on site following the walk.

The event is held to support those who suffer from mental health conditions and raise money for research and prevention programs that will save lives, according to members of the Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition. The event supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s local and national programs.

Event organizers said these types of events are about turning hope into action.

The Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition leads the fight against suicide in Sheridan County by facilitating trainings, conducting local research, offering and coordinating local programs, advocating for mental health and supporting those affected by suicide.
