SHERIDAN — A trash-burning barrel resulted in a 50-acre grassland fire and the loss of a pole shed Wednesday for property owners on Coutant Creek Road.

The Goose Valley Fire Department, Sheridan Fire-Rescue, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Ambulance and Clearmont Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze around 2:15 p.m., according to Goose Valley Chief Bob Williams. Coutant Creek Road is located off Lower Prairie Dog Road northeast of Sheridan.

The entirety of the fire was contained on one property, and no people or animals were hurt. Firefighters extinguished the flames and left the scene around 8 p.m., Williams added.
