SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College women’s basketball team has added its second recruit to the 2015-16 class, this time bringing in a player a little closer to home.
After signing New Zealand’s Emilina Motu last week, coach Frank McCarthy inked 5-11 post player Ashlie Blackburn from Douglas High School.
During her senior season at Douglas, Blackburn averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game. Her nine rebounds per game was top in the 3A Northeast conference, and her 53 percent field-goal shooting was second in the conference. She was a two-time All-Conference and All-State selection, and she will get her first chance to play under coach McCarthy with the Wyoming All-Stars this summer.
McCarthy and the Lady Generals staff are excited to add Blackburn’s size and athleticism to next year’s squad.
“Ashlie can do a lot of things at the post position,” McCarthy said. “She has great athleticism, is a phenomenal rebounder and works hard for her position on the block. Her intelligence and communication skills also will serve her well, as she needs to step into a vital role for our team next year.
“We are very happy to have one of the best players in the state of Wyoming coming to be a General next year,” he added.
The Lady Generals finished the 2014-15 season with a 25-7 record and finished third in the conference.
