The new year is here! As I look forward to the upcoming year, I cannot help but reminisce on 2019 and all the success that Downtown Sheridan Association celebrated. Third Thursday Street Festival celebrated its 10th summer with a sculpture dedication, cupcakes and a photo booth. Goose Creek Polo Cup also celebrated their 10th annual. Our Economic Vitality Committee launched the Parklet in June and our Historic District Promotions Committee sponsored five shop local campaigns. These are just a few of the events that 2019 consisted of for DSA. As much as we enjoyed 2019, we are ready to embrace the new year.
On Jan. 23 at 9:30 a.m., you are invited to join our staff for a free webinar, presented by Wyoming Main Street, focusing on the four-point approach: organization, promotions, design and economic vitality. The showing will take place in the DSA Community Room.
Our Promotions Committee began planning promotions for the entire year. The committee is bringing back some of everyone’s favorites but are also super excited to roll out brand new promotions that downtown Sheridan has never seen before. During February’s promo meeting, we will have a guest speaker, Jessica Taylor, from U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. We invite anyone in the community to join us for the meeting Feb. 5 at 8 a.m. in the DSA Community Room.
I know that Flowers Up is not until May or June, depending on that Wyoming weather but flowers do not grow overnight. We have already began working with Sheridan College to ensure that Sheridan in Bloom has another successful year. With the help of college students, the flowers are grown, watered and taken care of during the spring months. If you would like to donate or volunteer for Sheridan in Bloom contact our office.
Our biggest event that we are kicking of the new year with is our annual Wine Fest March 6. Our Wine Fest Committee has been extremely busy planning this event, because not only is it our biggest fundraiser of the year but it is also our 20th Annual Wine Fest. Since it is our 20th, what better theme than the Roaring 20’s — Glitz, Glamour, & Giggle Water? VIP and General Admission tickets are available for purchase on our website, www.downtownsheridan.org, or by contacting our office. It will be an evening full of more than 100 wines, beers and spirits. All ticket holders receive hors d’ oeuvres, a tasting booklet/program, tastings and an auction bidder number. Doors to the Speakeasy at the Elks Lodge open at 6 p.m. to all ticket holders. This event will be the cat’s pajamas and you will not want to miss out.
