SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Area Marine Corps Toys For Tots campaign is in full swing. Local resident Gary Small is the coordinator for the campaign.
“We have over a dozen Toys For Tots donation boxes in area retail stores and businesses,” Small said. “We ask you to purchase a new, unwrapped toy, game or book and place it in a Toys For Tots donation box.”
Then, volunteers will gather the donations and distribute them to needy children in the area Dec. 14 at the Rising Sun Wellness Center, at 151 W. Brundage St.
The U. S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots Program was established in 1947 and distributes an average of 17 million toys annually. Parents or guardians in need should register their children well before Dec. 15 to avoid lengthy lines.
“Please contact us very soon to receive toys for the children,” Small said. “There is a small amount of documentation you need to bring in and we can inform you of what you need by calling us. It’s a pretty easy process, we’ve been doing this for a number of years and we are pretty efficient with the distribution.”
Small added that, right now, the group is pretty low on donations. Members of the Marine Corps hope that by bringing a Christmas present to each child, it will build self-esteem and hopefully help children as they go through their young years.
