This past Sunday, board members and volunteers took the flowers down on Main Street. The flowers were still in full bloom and gorgeous as ever. This year DSA donated the soil and flowers — which will turn into mulch — to Holy Name Catholic School’s garden. Thank you again to Sheridan College’s agriculture department and Home Depot for the beautiful flowers. Thank you to Evan Jones, Kim Wells and Olivia Chase for watering and giving the flowers love all summer.

We had splendid weather for our September Third Thursday and Farmers Market. It was wonderful to finish our 10th year celebration by having such a great crowd. We are grateful to our major Third Thursday sponsors; Bank of the West, Brittain World Travel, Hammer Chevrolet, Legacy Diamond & Gems, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Sheridan Travel and Tourism, and the city of Sheridan. Farmers Market season sponsors included First Federal Bank & Trust, Luminous Brewhouse, Farmer’s COOP, Sunlight Federal Credit Union and Sheridan Media. Thank you to our sponsors, as they play a significant role in making our event a huge success.

It’s October, which means it’s time for Hunting for Bucks, our Historic Promotions Committee’s shop local campaign. This campaign incorporates the ever-popular hunting season and rewards locals for shopping downtown by offering “Chamber Bucks” as a weekly prize for shoppers throughout the month of October. DSA will be drawing five $25 Chamber Bucks and one $50 Chamber Bucks on Tuesdays this month and will have three $100 Chamber Bucks on Oct. 31. Thank you to Mayor Roger Miller and the city of Sheridan as they generously sponsor this shop local campaign.

It’s competition time. This past summer, our Economic Vitality Committee launched the parklet. The parklet was set up at various business in the downtown area. Each business chose how the parklet was used: outdoor patio, office hours, jewelry class or beer garden. Now the economic vitality committee is rolling out the Curb’d competition. This competition is for design proposals for a new parklet that will fit within our downtown. We invite everyone in the Sheridan area to compete. For more information on the Curb’d competition, guidelines and application, please visit our website at or give us a call at 307-672-8881.
