SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Troopers had a rough go of it over the holiday weekend. The Troopers lost all three games at the Gillette Tournament, dropping them to 4-7 on the season.
Sheridan started the tournament off with host Gillette and battled the 30-win Roughriders before falling by a 2-1 score. Quinn McCafferty went the distance for the Troopers, tossing six innings of three-hit baseball, yielding one earned run with 11 strikeouts. Michael Greer had the lone RBI, as Sheridan collected five hits in the contest.
Things didn’t go well on Saturday for Sheridan, as it dropped a 10-0 decision to Cheyenne and a 5-4 decision to Jackson. Eric Taylor earned the nod against Cheyenne and only lasted three innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. The Troopers couldn’t do anything offensively, being no-hit in the five-inning affair.
Jacob Boint started against Jackson and surrendered one earned run on five hits with five punch outs. Carter Dubberley and Cody Kilpatrick each knocked a run home.
Both games scheduled for Monday were canceled due to rain.
Sheridan returns to the diamond Sunday with a doubleheader at Rapid City.
