UPDATE (Feb. 25, 10:15 a.m.) — The Sheridan County Coroner’s Office announced the name of the victim from the structure fire Feb. 20: Allan Barker, 58. The cause of the fire has not been released yet; The Sheridan Press will continue to follow the investigation.


SHERIDAN — Smoke billowed from the rear of the Main Street building containing Edwards Hotel and Q-Man Music Wednesday night as several agencies responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of North Main Street.

Sheridan Police Department Lt. Travis Koltiska confirmed one death from the fire in a press release sent around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. SPD would not release the name of the deceased until investigators positively identify the victim and notify the victim’s relatives. All other occupants of the structure were evacuated and fire suppression efforts completed Wednesday night.

The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by Sheridan Fire-Rescue Department, and the cause of death of the victim is being investigated by SPD.

The Sheridan County Coroner’s Office could not release the name or cause of death at press time.

SFRD responded at 8:36 p.m. Other responding agencies included Goose Valley Fire Department, Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office and Rocky Mountain Ambulance. Crews cleared the scene at around 12:18 a.m. Investigators rested for the evening and started the fire investigation again at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Lead investigator Andy Lindberg said investigators start during daylight hours because it is easier.

Lindberg did not know if foul play was suspected regarding the death Thursday morning.
