SHERIDAN — Members of the WYO Theater Capital Campaign have announced receipt of a $500,000 pledge from the Joe and Arlene Watt Foundation Board.

“The Watt Foundation’s pledge is the largest gift from a foundation,” campaign Co-Chair Richard Davis said in a press release. “This support from the Watt Foundation has been critical to our being able to secure other donors, as well as the construction loan that has enabled us to begin work on the project.”

Campaign Co-Chair Kandi Davis agreed.

“We are so grateful to the Watt Foundation for this gift and the many others it has made over the years in support of Sheridan area community organizations” she said in the press release.

“Without its help, many accomplishments we take for granted today would not have been possible,” she added. “This latest gift to help with the WYO Theater expansion is much appreciated.”

The current work includes the foundations needed for steel work, retaining walls at the front and rear of the property and preparation for utilities.

When completed in early 2014, the facility will include a second theater, additional restrooms and dressing rooms, faculty offices, a larger lobby and concession area, additional wing space on the main stage, upgraded technical capabilities on the main stage and a costume design and construction facility.

Initial support for the project came through grants from Wyoming Business Council, secured by the city of Sheridan with the assistance of the Sheridan College

development office. Private donations and local area foundation support has come through the work of the campaign committee.

A public campaign is currently underway to secure as many pledges from community members as possible.
