SHERIDAN — The Wyoming State Democratic Party is in the process of boosting its numbers to better connect the party across the wide miles of Wyoming. One way it will accomplish that is through a new internship program with the University of Wyoming and Laramie County Community College.
The internship program will offer college students four credits and a semester of cultivating job skills and political knowledge, Executive Director for the Wyoming State Democratic Party Robin Van Avsdall said.
Student interns will fill 17 positions within the state party including outreach, finance, data collection, communications, recruitment and policy.
The Obama Team of the election of 2012 was the precursor to the internship program, Van Avsdall said.
She said Wyoming Democrats realized how beneficial college students could be for the party, and vice versa.
Van Avsdall said she has political connections around the nation and will help interns get entry level positions if they are driven and express an interest.
