SHERIDAN — The Rams trailed for most of the way, but used a 28-point game from Matthew Wigglesworth and a seven-point fourth quarter from Tony Mort to reach the 2A state semifinals.
Big Horn beat Big Piney 54-45 in the first round game at the 2A state tournament in Casper early Thursday afternoon.
The Rams trailed 26-25 at halftime but led by one-point, 36-35, after three. A quick 5-0 scoring run early in the fourth quarter was all they needed to get by the Punchers. Tony Mort hit a 3-pointer to give the Rams their largest lead of the game to begin the fourth, and a Wigglesworth steal and layup gave Big Horn a lead they would never surrender.
Mort finished with 13 points and Lucas Wollenman scored six. Wigglesworth was eight of 13 from the field, including two of three from behind the arc. He also had six rebounds. Jordan Simms scored 20 for Big Piney.
Big Piney outshot the Rams from the field; (16-28 to 16-32) 57 percent to the Rams 50 percent. The Rams hit on four of seven from behind the arc while Big Piney just was three of 16.
The Rams play at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a semifinal against the winner of Lusk/Wyoming Indian at the Casper Events Center.
