Re: Aug. 20 bond vote

I am writing today to express my strong support, as both business owner and taxpayer, of the Sheridan College bond initiative to fund renovation and expansion of the college’s Tech Center.

When we relocated Vacutech to Sheridan in 2011, we brought just eight employees from our Denver production facility and hired the remainder from the Sheridan area. The Sheridan College Technical Education Center, with its strong programs in welding and machine tool technologies, was pivotal to our decision to move our company to Sheridan.

Since our move, we have seen tremendous growth in our industry and in our business. We continue to have openings for skilled machinists and welders, and indications throughout our industry — in fact, throughout the manufacturing industry as a whole — are that demand will continue to grow. We would like nothing better than to be able to fill that demand with Sheridan College students.

We have been impressed with the work ethic and skills exhibited by Sheridan College graduates who have joined the Vacutech family. We now have over 60 people working on our manufacturing floor right here in Sheridan County, and we could use more. Having a local college that will work with us to customize our programs and produce the qualified workers we need is absolutely critical to our continued growth and success.

I encourage Sheridan County citizens to join me in voting “yes” on Aug. 20 as an investment in the future of our youth and our community.
