From Staff Reports
SHERIDAN — A 12-year-old from Sheridan will compete in the 100-meter dash at the Hershey’s Track and Field North American Final.
Tyler Trentacosti plans to run in the youth track national final event, set for Aug. 3 in Hershey, Penn.
The Hersey’s Track program mission is to provide “boys and girls ages 9-14 the opportunity to learn and develop the skills required to participate in basic track and field events.”
Trentacosti was on the Sheridan Junior High School wrestling team last year as well as the track team. His sister Hailey Witty competed in the national event in 1998.

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan adult co-ed slow pitch softball, recreation leisure league began their playoff this Tuesday and will continue on until championship day July 26th.
The top five placed teams follow respectively, Pure Energy, the Dirtbags, 1st Interstate Bank, Evergreen Dwellings, and ACT.
The league is composed of 15 teams which have been playing since May, running through 14 regular season games.
Sheridan Recreational District Sports Coordinator Robbie Spencer said the league has been quite successful, along with the two other leagues of softball, Men’s Softball and Co-Recreation Competitive.
“We’ve had a fun league this year,” he said, “I really enjoyed it.”
He added that there were 14 new teams added altogether in all divisions combined.
“I look forward to next year to keep making the league more interesting and fun, we want to keep building on what we have.”
Zach Stewart, the head coach of the first ranked team Pure Energy, said his team has had a good year with a 13-1 record. The Pure Energy team had many returning athletes from last year’s league along with several new members who Stewart said “really stepped up to the plate.”
“This will be the last summer for a lot of us,” said Stewart, “We’re just trying to play and have fun with it…win or lose, it doesn’t really matter.”
The co-recreational league continues its playoffs this evening at the Sheridan Softball complex.
