SHERIDAN — The People Assistance Food Bank’s annual Shop with a Cop program will be Dec. 21 at Kmart.

From 7-11 a.m. children will be escorted through the store by police officers to select a free item to give to their parents for Christmas.

Parents can drop their children off or a bus can pick them up if needed.

The event pairs disadvantaged youth in our community with local law enforcement volunteers to teach children that the officers are here to support our community and that giving to others without expecting a return is a wonderful thing.

The food bank is looking to raise $6,000 prior to event in hopes of taking 250 children shopping.

Parents should pre-register their children if possible but are welcome to join the day of the event if not.

Contact Dan Lick at 675-1140 to make a donation, register a child or get more information.

The Kmart is located at 2571 N. Main St.
