Sheridan: Rotellini, Edeen third
SHERIDAN — Sheridan athletes battled at the Track Classic Friday at Natrona County High School on a day when six different meet records were broken.
While no Sheridan County athletes competed in this year’s girls 100-meter hurdles, Mikalah Skates of Kelly Walsh broke SHS alumna Shauna Smith’s 2001 Track Classic record of 14.45 with a time of 14.42 seconds.
Michael Rotellini was third in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 9:51.75. Sheridan’s Taylor Bruso finished seventh in the race (10:30.78).
Rotellini qualified for the race with a 9:56.32, but was beaten in a competitive race in Casper.
After qualifying with a 12.51, Gabby Edeen was third in the 100-meter dash with a 12.62 second run, behind Jerayah Davis of Kelly Walsh’s first place and record-breaking time of 11.76. Edeen was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a 26.31.
Kyle Dietsche finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run, notching a 4:35.09 mark, two seconds off his qualifying time. He trailed the race winner Friday by four seconds.
Casey Carlton placed seventh in the 400-meter dash. His 51.19 trailed two record-breaking times at the top of the race. He ran faster than his meet qualifying time of 51.61.
Dietsche was also seventh in the 800-meter run. He ran the race in 2:02.50, seven seconds off the winning time, and about a second slower than his Classic qualifying time.
Crystal Richards was ninth in the girls triple jump. She performed well as she jumped 32 feet, 3.25 inches Friday in Casper after qualifying with a 33-7.00.
Finally, Shayla Christensen placed fifth in the shot put, throwing 35 feet, 10 inches, just shorter than her qualifying throw of 36-8.00.
Big Horn: Wigglesworth breaks school record
BIG HORN — Matthew Wigglesworth finished third in the 300 hurdles, breaking a school record in the process Friday at the Track Classic.
Wigglesworth posted a 39.97-second time, breaking the 40.57-second record set by Big Horn alumnus Kevin Dow.
Christian Mayer took seventh in the 100-meter dash. Despite fighting an injury, according to Big Horn track coach Kurt McLaughlin, Mayer ran well, finishing in 11.44 seconds. Burlington sprinter Ben Mancuso won the race in 10.92 seconds.
Freshman Bailey Bard, running the 400-meter dash in competition for just her third time, finished sixth with 1:04.49.
Tongue River: Huff, Hutchinson take third
DAYTON — Josiah Huff and Amanda Hutchinson posted third place Track Classic finishes for Tongue River High School.
Huff was third in the 400- meter dash, trailing meet record breaker Hunter Davila’s 48.74 second time Friday.
Huff ran a “great race” according to track coach Chuck Walters, finishing in 50.18 seconds.
In Huff’s second event, the 800, he finished seventh, having about 30 minutes to rest after running the 400, Walters said.
Hutchinson placed third in the 800, running it in 2:23.42, which was one second off the school record for that race.
“Obviously, she had a really great race,” Walters said.
Sarah Nielsen, competing in the shot put, didn’t get a mark Friday.
Tongue River track at Panther Invite
SHERIDAN — Tongue River High School athletes who didn’t qualify for the Track Classic competed in the Panther Invite in Wright Friday.
Team scores were not available by press time.
