Sheridan coach involved in fight at Cody Shootout

SHERIDAN — One of Sheridan’s coaches found himself in a fight with an opposing team’s coach over the weekend at the Cody Shootout soccer tournament.

Reports from the Cody Police Department state that officers responded to Mentock Park for an assault.

Powell soccer coach Shane Kannard was issued a citation for simple battery by Cody police after he punched Coree Kelly, a coach from Sheridan. The soccer officials red-carded Kannard and the game was canceled. Kelly sustained minor injuries.

The confrontation occurred after a Sheridan player was flagged for fouling a Powell player.

Kelly was not immediately available for comment this morning.
