WEATHER FROM OUR SPONSORS
September is always a very busy time for the Chamber. Not only did we hold our annual Brewfest Fundraiser earlier this month, but we have begun planning for the coming year. It is also a time of transition, as each year we have to bid farewell to some special individuals who have served as Chamber Board members for the past three-plus years.
This year we give special thanks for time and service to Jim Schellinger, Karen Green and Christi Haswell. Jim, with Sheridan Media, fulfilled another director’s unexpired term way back in 2005 and then served two consecutive terms afterward. He also served as Chamber Board President from 2007-2009. Karen, with Harker Mellinger CPA’s, served a full term on the board and also stepped into the role of Board Treasurer more than a year ago. And Christi, with SWCA Environmental Consultants, dedicated the last four years to serving on the Chamber Board. Thank you, all!
With the books almost closed on the second annual Chamber Brewfest, it is safe to say that this event left its mark on Sheridan! With temperatures soaring above 90 degrees, it was a near-perfect day for the estimated 1,200 attendees to sample fine craft beers from some of the region’s premier breweries, all while enjoying live music, delicious food and good company. The site of the event, Whitney Plaza, was literally a sea of people with bright orange cups. The aisles between the various brewery tents were filled with people, and if you were able to maneuver to the ends, you were front row for John Kirlin & the High Plains Drifters and the Patti Fiasco Band, who took turns entertaining the crowd with some fantastic music.
Overall, this year’s Brewfest fundraiser was a huge success, and we would like to thank our wonderful sponsors, volunteers, the business community and of course everyone who bought tickets in support of the Chamber and our many programs and active committees. The event was definitely bigger and better than last year, and, according to one of the 17 brewers in attendance, “this is one of the best festivals I have ever been to!”
But there’s still more to keep us busy this month. Our two-day Profit Mastery financial workshop is next week, and we only have a few spots still available. A very special Business After Hours will take place at ERA Carroll Realty – in celebration of both a significant anniversary and birthday! And, would you believe, committees are already knee-deep in the planning for Christmas Stroll, the Community Holiday Dinner, and the Legislative Forum? We just wrapped up graduation for 25 leaders from our Leadership Sheridan County program – a Chamber program that’s been around for 20 years.
The Chamber of Commerce, located in the Wyoming Welcome Center on East fifth Street, is an active place indeed! We invite you to drop by, give us a call at 672-2485, or check out our website at www.sheridanwyomingchamber.org, to find that business you’re looking for or to discover more about what’s going on, in September or any month, in our amazing community!
Dixie Johnson is the executive director at the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce.
