SHERIDAN — Senior Ethan Hall has made huge improvements in his throwing, pre-qualifying in discus with a distance of 145 feet, 3 inches and taking eighth this weekend in Casper.
This is the first time Hall has pre-qualified for state.
“Ethan has great leadership and enthusiasm,” Sheridan High School track coach Art Baures said. “I’m really happy for him to qualify. It is really hard to improve three times in a row.”
Big Horn and Sheridan track and field teams had several athletes place in the top five at the Kelly Walsh Invitational on Saturday.
“It was really nice to have the entire team compete on Saturday,” Baures said. “We will get to do that one more time at Gillette before regionals.”
Sheridan’s top five placers included Gabby Edeen, Katie Campbell, Taylor Bruso, Aaron Campbell and four relay teams.
Edeen finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.43.
“Gabby did a great job placing in the 200-meter,” Baures said. “It is really good for her to run fast two days in a row. She is getting faster as we get closer to state.”
Katie Campbell placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.94.
The girls relay team made up of Janika Sweeney, Madison Bland, Gracie Edeen and Cassandra Robinson placed fifth in the 4×400 with a time of 4:41.27.
The girls relay team made up of Robinson, Hannah Wiley, Xiomara Robinson and Gracie Edeen placed third in the 4×800 with a time of 11:50.38.
“It was fun for the relay teams to get out and medal,” Baures said.
Bruso finished third in the 3200-meter race with a time of 10:53.07.
Aaron Campbell finished second in two events — the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.64 and high jump with a distance of 5-11.00.
Sheridan had two teams in the 4×800 relay. The first team of Bruso, Jt Vrieswyk, Micah Sweeney and Rion Szatkowski placed second with a time of 8:58.33.
The B relay team of Taylor Wendtland, Kael Sweeney, Kyle Jerney and Logan Kennedy placed fifth with a time of 9:33.58.
“Kelly Walsh was a tough meet for Sheridan,” Baures said. “It is good for how competitive the meet was to see the kids place in the top eight.”
The Broncs will compete at regionals Friday in Gillette.
Big Horn had two individuals and two relay teams place in the top five at Kelly Wash on Saturday.
Jadyn Mirich finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.33.
McKenzie Greenelesh placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.38.
The girls relay team made up of Bailey Bard, Ashley Fox, Cassidy Enloe and Morgan Nance placed third in the 4×100 relay with a time of 52.71.
In the 4×400 the girls placed third with a time of 4:15.95. That team consisted of Bard, Fox, Enloe and Mirich.
“I did not expect the 4×400 relay team to run as fast as they did,” Big Horn track coach Kirk McLaughlin said. “The boys competed as normal and are getting better each week as they get more experience in them.”
Big Horn track will compete in Upton on Friday.
