WEATHER FROM OUR SPONSORS
SHERIDAN — It may be the beginning of fall sports season, but that doesn’t mean Sheridan College women’s basketball coach Frank McCarthy hasn’t been hard at work.
After adding two Australian’s to his roster for the 2014-15 season, McCarthy recently signed another foreign player to round out his squad.
Zuzana Talácková is a 5-foot-9 forward from the Czech Republic, who McCarthy says might be one of the best players he’s ever recruited.
With a little help from former Lady General Paulina Chudarkova, another Czech player who played for Sheridan in 2010 and 2011, McCarthy was really impressed with what he saw of Talácková.
“I was so impressed when I saw her on film,” he said. “She is an exceptional athlete. She has tremendous skills, can really score and has a great feel for the game.”
Talácková is coming off of a season in the Czech Basketball Federation Extraliga in which she averaged 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
With the addition of Talácková, McCarthy has added the final piece to a recruiting class he says is one of the finest in his career. Talácková joins Australia’s Sam Moodie and Tamara Brine, as well as Sarah Rawlings, Jess Underberg, Shayne Carter, Shayna Kretschman, Peyton Hinn and Megan Kramer.
“This team has a chance to be very good,” McCarthy said of his completed roster. “On paper this has to be one of the best classes we have ever recruited, but the proof is in the pudding. If this team comes together and meshes as a team, they have the potential to be very good.”
The Lady Generals will kick off the season with their first day of practice on Oct. 1.
