SHERIDAN — After a couple months of practice, the Sheridan College rodeo team enters competition this weekend.
SC will compete in Gillette, beginning at 1 p.m. Friday with slack. There will be a 7 p.m. performance both Friday and Saturday, with the top 10 in each event coming back to the short round Sunday.
Head coach Marc Gilkerson said that he expects a lot of his team to make the short round.
“A lot of my kids have been going to pro rodeos and competing and doing fairly well,” he said. “The girls have been roping a lot out at Cody Cunningham’s, and the boys have been going once a week practicing rough stock in Gillette.
“I think we’re ready, they’ve been riding good. They’re ready to get out on the road and start competing.”
This is the third year the SC rodeo team has opened the spring season in Gillette.
The Sheridan College men finished the fall season in fifth place in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings of the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The women’s team sits in sixth place.
