SHERIDAN — Ranchester town councilors passed their 2013-2014 budget Tuesday, and Mayor Allan Moore said the community looks to be on solid financial footing for the coming fiscal year.

“We’re staying in the black pretty good,” he said.

Moore said the document, which passed unanimously on its third and final reading, doesn’t feature many major changes when compared to previous years.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, councilor’s discussed potential grant opportunities from the Wyoming Business Council that might be used to construct additional retail space across the street from the Ranchester information center.

While plans have not yet been finalized, Moore said the town council is interested in creating opportunities to attract businesses and revenue to the area.

The body also finalized plans for the annual fishing derby set to be held Aug. 3 at Rotary Pond. The free event is open to children ages 4 to 13 and no pre-registration is required.

The derby begins at 8 a.m. and prizes will be awarded to the top participants.

Ranchester is also set to host a fireworks display tomorrow at dusk.
