BIG HORN — The Big Horn Rams stumbled in the first round of the 2A boys state tournament in Casper on Thursday night, losing to Rocky Mountain, 64-57.

Rams coach Ryan Alley said the boys didn’t come out in the first quarter with the required intensity and fell behind early. At the end of the first quarter, Rocky Mountain was up 21-13.

“We played better after that, but we couldn’t overcome the first-quarter deficit,” Alley said.

The remaining three quarters saw even scoring. In the second quarter the Rams put up 15 to Rocky Mountains 13. In the third quarter each team put up 15 points and in the fourth quarter Big Horn put up 14 and Rocky Mountain put up 13.

Colter Carzoli led the Rams with 20 points and Seth Kite added 12 to the team total. Connor McCafferty contributed eight, while Max Lube and Colton Bates each put up six.

Alley added that Kite had a great game on the boards for the Rams.

The Big Horn team will face Big Piney this afternoon in a loser-out game. Alley said the Rams have faced Big Piney before, losing by 10 points in December.

“It should be a good game,” Alley said. “We need to get over last night’s loss. Right now our goal is just to win the last game we play.”
