SHERIDAN — This September, The Sheridan Press will launch the first-ever fall edition of Destination Sheridan.
The magazine will feature information on fall and winter recreation in the area as well as must-see attractions for tourists. As with each Destination Sheridan magazine, though, the fall edition will have a theme. This year’s will center around Sheridan’s women.
“There are so many interesting women in this community who tirelessly work to make Sheridan the place it is,” Sheridan Press Managing Editor Kristen Czaban said. “It is time we highlight and celebrate their accomplishments.”
In order to make the magazine come to life, The Press will host a women’s conference and expo expected to take place at Sheridan College.
Plans include filling the new Whitney Academic Center for the free expo and speakers are likely to utilize classrooms throughout the building for sessions and activities related to the conference.
Known as the FAB (For. About. By.) Women’s Conference, session topics will include everything from finding affordable child care, nutrition and self-defense to starting your own business, managing finances and negotiating wages. Ideas for sessions are still being considered, so anyone with suggestions is encouraged to contact The Sheridan Press.
“This conference is meant to appeal to all kinds of women,” Czaban said. “The key words we are considering as we plan the event are empowering, but practical. We want to provide information that is useful in women’s everyday lives.”
A committee of local women from various organizations and backgrounds is helping to organize the event scheduled for Oct. 4-5.
As part of the conference, The Sheridan Press will also be naming a “Woman of the Year.”
Information on how to nominate women for the award and criteria to be considered will be available in coming months.
Speakers are beginning to be booked and sponsorships for the event will be sold.
