It is so exciting to see all the tourists and visitors downtown this time of year. Everything is buzzing with activity and the temperatures and spirits are up. We are having a great summer here at the Downtown Sheridan Association. We have public restrooms, a community room and an informational kiosk along with tons of information for tourists.
The Rain Garden is at our offices at 121 S. Main St. A group of DSA volunteers worked with the Sheridan County Conservation District and did an amazing job putting in the garden. Quality Hedge did a terrific job with the landscaping and new sidewalks.
The Sheridan Farmers Market has begun! It operates weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 5. The market hours are 5-7 p.m. The market is located at Grinnell Plaza this year. During the Third Thursday Street Festival it moves to Grinnell Street in front of The Sheridan Press.
Local growers and artisans work hard to provide fresh produce, arts and crafts to the Sheridan community. There are children’s events, youth activities, demonstrations and nonprofit organization booths at the market every week as well.
National Farmers’ Market week is the first week of August so watch for special events and giveaways during this week. Come visit the Farmers Market and enjoy downtown Sheridan! Our Community Partners include Sheridan College, and the Sheridan County Chamber Agriculture Committee. Sheridan Media continues as our long time media sponsor for the market.
The second Third Thursday Street Festival was a huge success. This event could not happen without the dedication of so many volunteers.
We would like to thank everyone that came out and participated. The next one will be Aug. 21. Get your registrations into our office if you would like to have a booth. You can download a registration packet from www.downtownsheridan.org, or call the office at 672-8881.
In August we will be having the Blue Ribbon Steak Cookoff, so keep your grills fired up and “Get your grill on!”
Stacie Coe is the executive director of the Downtown Sheridan Association.
