SHERIDAN — The Sheridan High School rodeo team had multiple standouts at the Sweetwater County high school rodeo in Rock Springs over the weekend.
On Saturday, Weston Mann (Sheridan) and Cameron Irwin (Buffalo) roped their steer in 7.3 seconds, finishing first in the day’s team roping. The two are tied for fifth place in current Wyoming High School Rodeo Association standings. Mann also placed fourth in tie down roping Saturday.
Kylee Cahoy placed fourth Saturday in barrel racing with a 15.94 second time, and Arvada’s Linzee Adamson was fifth with a 16.01.
Banner’s Cashlee Cunningham recorded a 2.7 in breakaway roping and placed second Saturday. Sheridan’s Tiare Ilgen was seventh in the event.
Cunningham was seventh in goat tying.
Sunday’s highlights for the local team were led again by Jeffery Zdziarski in bareback riding. He narrowly missed a second win in as many weeks as he scored a 62-point ride, finishing second to state-leader Justin Kissack (Gillette) and his 63. Kissack won both rounds of bareback riding over the weekend and holds 88 points in state standings while Zdziarski remains in second with 64.
Cahoy bettered her barrel racing time and her place from the previous day, finishing in second with a 15.8-second ride. She overtook Jackson’s Madison Wilkerson for first place in state barrel racing standings this weekend. Cahoy has 66 points, just ahead of Wilkerson’s 65 entering this weekend’s competition in Big Piney.
Adamson was fifth Sunday in the barrel racing and seventh in pole bending. Cunningham won Sunday’s goat tying go. She scored a 7.8, while Ilgen fell to 10th.
Arvada’s Faith Carson won both go’s of girls cutting with a 74 and 72 point scores.
This year’s national high school finals rodeo will be held in Rock Springs in July.
