John Stephen Stanich passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2018, from natural causes.

He was born in Billings, Montana, on June 9, 1953, to Dorothy and Doc Stanich. He attended St. Pius X Catholic Grade School and Billings Senior High School. He attended college in Billings, Montana; Denver, Colorado and Albuquerque, New Mexico. He managed a fencing company in Farmington, New Mexico, and moved to Billings to work for the City and also to be close to his mom to help with health issues. He was currently working in Hardin, Montana, for the city.

John had a tremendous sense of humor and always had a quick smile. He made you feel good to be around him. He had great compassion for others and an eager willingness to help. He enjoyed cooking and was very accomplished at it. John was an avid reader, especially science fiction and he loved hunting and fishing. He and his dog, Bolt, had a very special bond. He was always a gentleman and always opened doors for his wife and others.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his sister, Lynda Madsen and spouse Duane; his nieces, Mandee Vimont and spouse Dan, and their children, Caden, Elliot and Cecilia; Amy Winters and her spouse, Robert and their daughter, Lillia; and Chelsie Vega and her spouse, Andres, and children, Lucia and Mateo; cousins, Greg Budd, Cindy Dodge and Debbie Jolley; and three step daughters.

He was a gentle soul and we all will miss him greatly.

A memorial will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018, in Hardin, Montana, at St. Joseph Catholic .
