May 30, 1925 –March 13, 2017

Joe died March 13th at Westview of complications from dementia.  He was born May 30, 1925 to Andrew and Isabelle (Mackenzie) Ahrens in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  His parents; wife, Jeanette (Helzer); sister, Margaret Somers; and son, Tim preceded him in death.  He is survived by his brother, Robert; sister, Clara Lange; sons, Robert (Kathleen) and Daniel (Andee); daughter, Janet (Stewart) Kowall; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (Arizona); six grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe served in the Navy during World War II as a radioman on a ship that transported troops and supplies.  He often worked long hours as a commercial printer to support his family.  After retirement he was an avid golfer and volunteered many hours to various causes.

Joe was a very gentle, kind and positive person. He loved being around people and sharing jokes and kidding remarks. Joe wasn’t the sort of person to give advice, rather he influenced by example.

The family is grateful to the kindness and care he received at Sugarland and Westview.

A memorial service is planned for later. Donations may be given in his name to the Dementia Society of America.
