Duane L. “Mac” McKinney, 84, passed away at his home in Big Horn, WY on March 15, 2017. Mac was born on February 21, 1933, at Steve Forks on the Big Dry in Garfield County, MT to Robert & Anna (Perry) McKinney. Robert died in 1933 and Anna married Roy Shriner in 1934. The family moved to Stevensville, MT where Duane attended school and graduated in 1951. He then served in the US Air Force (Korean War) from 1952-1956. On April 21, 1955, Mac married Lorraine Vanderzee of Clear Lake, SD, in Cheyenne, WY. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Spearfish, SD where Mac attended Black Hills State College, graduating in 1960. Mac taught school in Osage, WY, for nine years, then became employed by the US Postal Service as Postmaster at Osage, WY, Yellowstone National Park, WY, and Chugwater, WY. In 1992, Mac retired and he and Lorraine moved to their new home in Big Horn, WY. Mac is survived by Lorraine, his wife of nearly 62 years and his children Ray (Susan) of Clinton, MT, Gail (Tracy) of Lusk, WY, Jan (Les) of Billings, MT, and Mike (Valarie) of Apple Valley CA, sister Nola (Floyd) Wood of Corvallis, MT, and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mac was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 215 West Works St, Sheridan, WY, on March 25, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Clear Lake, SD at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 West 5th ST, Sheridan WY 82801.
