SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Recreation District plans to mix things up a little bit for this year’s adult softball leagues.

Registration for the leagues run through Friday, then a late fee of $25 will be charged through May 29. Teams can register online at or in person at Thorne-Rider Park.

There will still be two co-ed divisions in the softball league. There is one leisure division for teams that just want to have fun and a higher skill division for the more competitive teams.

The second annual home run derby will take place June 14 at 1 p.m. at the Softball Complex at Sheridan College. Entry is $20 per person. You can sign up now or wait until the day of the derby. Robbie Spencer, the recreation program supervisor, said that last year the recreation district had a great showing and hope to grow each year.

“It’s a great event, come out eat food, listen to music and watch some balls go over the fence,” Spencer said.

New to the program this year is the league tournament. The tournament will begin Aug. 14 at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

It will be a four-day tournament featuring a different division each day. Aug. 14 will feature the women’s league.

The co-ed competitive division will compete Aug. 15 and the men’s league will be all day Saturday, Aug. 16. Sunday will feature the co-ed leisure league.

The tournament will include a beer garden provided by Big Horn Beverage, food vendors from local restaurants, a dunk tank, a bounce house for kids and much more.

“Come drink some beer, eat some food and watch some softball,” Spencer said. “The glory days of softball are coming back.”
