Oswald promoted to staff sergeant

SHERIDAN — On June 1, Devon Oswald of Sheridan was promoted to staff sergeant in the Wyoming Army National Guard’s A Battery, 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery.

Oswald is a section chief for the fire direction center and has been a member of the Wyoming National Guard for seven years.

He is also employed with Vacutech in Sheridan.

Phipps receives honors for service as 2-300th’s commander

SHERIDAN — Lt. Col. Greg Phipps of Cheyenne received the Meritorious Service Medal for his command of the 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery — based in Sheridan — since July 31, 2010. The ceremony was held June 13 at Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center.

Phipps became the commander of Wyoming’s only combat arms battalion and field artillery battalion following the unit’s last deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Phipps also serves as the full-time personnel officer for the Wyoming Army National Guard.


Jim Cudney assumes command of 2-300th Field Artillery

SHERIDAN — On July 1, Lt. Col. Jim Cudney of Cheyenne assumed command of the 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery, based in Sheridan.

Cudney previously headed the operations section for the 115th Fires Brigade in Cheyenne. He also serves as the full-time Active Guard and Reserve manager for the Wyoming Army National Guard.

Cudney is a veteran of two deployments with the battalion in Operation Iraqi Freedom and also served as the bilateral affairs officer for the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia.

Prior to that, he was the full-time officer-in-charge of the 2-300th in Sheridan and the battalion’s executive officer.
