SHERIDAN — A Sheridan County man died Thursday night when, it appears, a large branch fell on him while he was trimming a tree, Sheridan County Coroner PJ Kane said.

Kane released the name of the deceased man as 63-year-old David Mader.

Goose Valley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bob Williams confirmed his crews were called to provide support at approximately 9 p.m., and said medics with Rocky Mountain Ambulance confirmed Mader was dead at the scene. Williams said it appeared as though the man had been using a small electric chain saw to cut the tree and a large branch fell on top of him.

The incident occurred at 5539 Coffeen Ave., which is located between Sheridan and Big Horn.

Kane said details of the case will be forwarded to a forensic pathologist in Billings, Mont., to confirm the exact cause of death.

GVVFD and RMA were assisted in their emergency response by the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office.
