SHERIDAN — Anita Schamber of Sheridan was named chair of the Advisory Board for the Global Women in Leadership Network,  a nonprofit subsidiary of the Violet Hope Foundation, at the summer meeting of the board in Golden, Colorado.

The mission of the GWL  is to “foster global relationships among women, encouraging and equipping them to live out their calling.” The nonprofit is currently focused on serving women in the Congo as a pilot project. GWL is collaborating with HEAL AFRICA, a medical ministry, to support rape warfare victims in the Congo by directly offering emotional and spiritual support, training, and a microenterprise resource: solar lights. The solar lights, which offer women a modicum of protection, also provide a resource for charging mobile phones for a small fee.

Cycling events to raise awareness of the needs of the women in the Congo and elsewhere are scheduled this summer in Washington, Oregon, California and Colorado.

GWL has had outreach to women in Africa, Middle East, Philippines and Romania. For membership information contact  Schamber at 763-4631.
