Lady Generals uspet North Sub-Region IX leader WWC

SHERIDAN — The Lady Generals may be as good as any team in their conference when they play at home.

Sheridan (16-8, 6-4) beat North Sub-Region IX leader Western Wyoming College (18-5, 7-2) on Wednesday night, 72-64, completing a comeback and improving their home record to 13-1 this season.

Things haven’t been as easy on the road, but with the win they stayed  near the top of a crowded North division, preparing for second-place Gillette on Saturday.

“It was a really great team win, I was really proud of the kids,” head coach Frank McCarthy said, impressed with the way his girls withstood a first-half barrage, trailing 40-33 at the break.

“They were hitting tough shots, outrebounding us, beating us to loose balls, but our kids stayed in it,” he added. “Momentum changed.”

Western took down 13 offensive rebounds in the first half, but Sheridan limited that to four in the second half. Teams were even in the rebound tally at 43 for the game.
Tiana Hanson was strong under the basket, finishing with 10 rebounds along with nine points. Josie Three Irons and Sierra Toms did their part on the boards as well with eight and five respectively. Three Irons led all scores with 22 points and Toms was close behind with 18.

Sheridan hosts Gillette (16-8, 6-3) at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
