Coming off a tough loss to Eastern Wyoming College last Tuesday, the Sheridan College Lady Generals (5-2) were back under the Golden Dome Friday night and back to their winning game.
The ladies finished stong against the Salish Kootenai College Bison from Pablo, Mont. with a final score of 101 Generals, 60 Bison.
Last Tuesday’s loss was the second in a row for a team that started off the season 4-0.
“It was a character building experience,” said Head Coach Frank McCarthy on the loss. “We really bounced back after our performance on Tuesday.”
McCarthy credits tonight’s win primarily to the season high 27 assists.
“When we move the ball side-to-side we hit the open person,” he said. “We really came out strong, especially in the first eight minutes.”
The ladies also forced 26 turnovers while only giving up 15.
Madison Forney, starting point guard for the Generals, had the highest total points with 17 and tied with Samirah Davis, forward, for top rebounds with eight each.
Four women finished the game with personal points in the double digits including Forney, Sierra Toms, Josie Three Irons and Tiana Hanson. Only one Bison, Latydia Holiday, achieved the same with 15 points.
“Hopefully we’re back on a roll,” said McCarthy, “but you don’t want to be satisfied. We’ve got to go in to tomorrow’s game with the same energy as tonight.”
The Lady Generals play tonight under the dome at 5 p.m. in the McCoy Insurance Agency Tournament.
The game is part of Sheridan College’s “Pack the Dome” event involving free giveaways for the men’s and women’s games, encouraging Sheridan College students to fill the bleachers and support their athletes.
