SHERIDAN — The Sheridan College women’s soccer team ran into Northwest College and Ricki Ryan Wednesday afternoon in a 3-0 defeat.
The Lady Trappers scored three first-half goals, the final two coming from the Sheridan High School graduate Ryan and the other from a piece of quick-footed play in the box from Brazilian midfielder Aline De Lima.
“It’s tough, we didn’t really start well,” head coach Stefan Skillman said, his team still searching for their first win.
“We kind of handcuffed ourselves but we had a couple people who got injured so we had to change things up. We started pressuring them like crazy and tried to create some opportunities to score. I think we had two opportunities on a clear net. It was unfortunate that we spotted them three goals early.”
He said he was pleased with the play of Quinn Farrarnd and Shelby Pinkleman, each coming in at back-up keeper and holding the Lady Trappers scoreless in the second half, as well as the play of Baylee Baker at defender.
The Lady Generals play Otero and Trinidad Friday and Saturday, respectively in what Skillman called their toughest two remaining games this season.
Wednesday’s games were the first Region IX soccer contests ever played at Maier Field.
Steve Maier was presented with a signed ball from the men’s team and a jersey from the women.
Maier served as SC president from 1988-2004 and had the vision to preserve the space and create a field at the school.
