SHERIDAN — The Lady Broncs are rolling into the state tournament.
Clicking at the right time, the Sheridan High School girls basketball team beat Laramie and Gillette Friday and Saturday to earn a 4A East Regional crown and a No. 1 seed at the 4A state tournament this weekend in Casper.
They open Thursday at 9 a.m. against Green River.
Following a dominant performance over Laramie Friday, the Lady Broncs beat Gillette for the second time in nine days by a final score of 54-38 at Campbell County High School.
Despite an 11-7 first quarter deficit, the Lady Broncs would use an 18-8 run in the second and a 23-7 final quarter to earn their second double-digit win over the Lady Camels in as many weeks.
Senior Mali Wright scored 18 points to lead Sheridan and freshman Robbi Ryan had 11.
The Lady Broncs have won 11 of their last 13 games since Christmas, and enter the 4A state tournament as a heavy-favorite among a field of teams that includes No. 1 4A West team Natrona, Rock Springs, Cheyenne East, Campbell County, Evanston and Laramie.
The winner of Sheridan/Green River will play the winner of Rock Springs/Cheyenne East in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Casper Events Center.
The Sheridan girls last state title came in 2007.
