BUFFALO — The Sheridan Lady Broncs soccer team showed quick improvement in their lone contest of the week.
After a 2-0 loss to Laramie in Sheridan last Saturday, they bounced back with a 2-1 win in Buffalo Thursday afternoon.
Emily Julian scored twice for the Lady Broncs, both off clean crossing service from fellow junior Maddy McClure.
“We certainly had a number of opportunities, and just generally we felt like we played much much better than we did last weekend, and that’s our goal,” head coach Tom Racette said. “We’re missing a lot of kids with spring break, and playing short-handed I think was good for everybody’s concentration that was here. They knew we had a job to do and we got it done.”
Even with the week off from school, the Lady Broncs put together more passes and dominated possession against Buffalo — something that hadn’t been the case a week ago.
“We always work on our possession game, we didn’t execute it very well last weekend, but today we looked much better, and more composed. That’s key for any team, and for any team to have success,” Racette said.
Julian’s first goal, 12 minutes in, was created by a through-ball from left fullback Sarah Rawlings which McClure would put across the front of goal. Julian hit the ball in off the bottom of the crossbar.
Tied 1-1 after a deep Buffalo free kick goal lobbed perfectly over the head of keeper Bailey McLean, the Lady Broncs would secure the late winner.
A goal that was nearly identical in build up and finish as their first, Sheridan would free up McClure down the right side of the field where she found her way into the box, tapped the ball to Julian, who slotted it home high in the net. Completing their final non-conference tilt of the year, the Sheridan girls now have the Easter weekend off. They’ll travel to Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East next weekend.
