SHERIDAN — The Lady Broncs 200 medley relay team broke a school record that had stood since 1999 Saturday at their host meet.
Emily Spiegelberg, Gretchen and Mackenzie Dougherty and Payton Brilz swam a 2:11.53 during the Sheridan Invite, breaking the mark of 2:11.88.
“We had some really tough swims this weekend,” head coach Brent Moore said. “Our girls are swimming really well.”
Sheridan hosted the eight-team invite and finished fourth with 304 points behind Jackson’s 313. Campbell County High School won the event with 539 points and Laramie was second. The Dougherty sisters went one and two in the 100 butterfly, with Gretchen Dougherty’s 1:13.69 edging her younger sister’s time by less than 1/2 second. She was third in the 100 breaststroke.
Payton Brilz was third in the girls 200-meter freestyle (2:24.04) and fourth in the 100-meter backstroke, Spiegelberg was second in the backstroke (1:11.82).
On Friday, the Lady Broncs won a three-team dual with Jackson and Riverton in Sheridan. The 200 medley relay team won the race Friday, the Dougherty sisters were first and second in the 200-meter individual medley, and Laurel Fosnight was fourth.
Brilz won the 50-meter freestyle and Katie Beardslee finished fourth in that event.
Whitney Migrants, Brielle Smiley and Sara Von Krosigk were first, second and third respectively in 1-meter diving. Fosnight finished fourth in the butterfly and Mackenzie Dougherty was second in the 100-meter freestyle.
Gretchen Dougherty also won the 100-meter breaststroke, with Brilz, Raien Emery and Beardslee finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively.
“We swam really well all weekend,” Moore said. “It was great to be at home and have such good performances.”
The Lady Broncs host Natrona and Kelly Walsh Friday and then will host a dual with Riverton and Cody Oct. 11.
