SHERIDAN — Kamrin Allen had quite the impressive few days of golf last weekend in eastern Wyoming.
The Sheridan High School graduate and University of Wyoming golfer won the 37th annual Wyoming State Golf Association Match Play Championship at the Golf Club at Devil’s Tower, then went on to Gillette to win a Pub Links Tournament the next day.
Allen’s win at the match play tournament, held June 6-7, was his second in a row. This year, he beat junior UW teammate Eddie Stewart of Jackson in an 18-hole battle. Allen was 1-up entering the 17th hole and finished the tournament 2-up after he pared the hole and Stewart conceded. Allen reached the final pairing after he defeated Paul Mavrakis, 4 and 3, and then beat Tyler Rachetto of Lusk, 2-up.
Saturday in Gillette, Allen shot one-day, 36-hole 72-68—140 at a U.S.G.A Amateur Public Links Championship, qualifying him for the next round. The 88th annual United States Amateur Public Links Championship will be held July 15-20 at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va. The championship was created in 1922 as an opportunity for public-course players to compete for a national title. It’s open to golfers with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4.
Allen enters his sophomore season at UW this fall.
