SHERIDAN — The annual Holiday Inn Winter Shootout has been postponed to Feb. 15-16.

Originally scheduled for this weekend, the tournament was pushed back due to a lack of participating teams, according to the Sheridan Recreation District.

The Winter Shootout is the area’s largest indoor youth basketball tournament, for fifth through eighth grades, and traditionally falls before Christmas.

Typically the tournament fills up, with the SRD having to close registration at 50 teams, but this year a tournament the same weekend in Billings affected sign-ups to the point that the tournament was moved.

While the reschedule is expected to draw fewer teams due to junior high seasons being underway in February, SRD director Richard Wright said that they didn’t want to cancel the tournament because that makes it tougher to hold the tournament in future years.

Sign-ups remain open through the SRD, call 674-6421.
